Potable water ending up in fore and aft bilge

Post by Liveitwell »

Filled potable water tank for first time this season after spring launch and the water is ending up in the fore and aft bilge. Is there a valve that I am neglecting that may have been opened or closed during last winterization? 1986 3607

No valves or anything one must think of however after layup on needs to check that all winterization procedures are reversed which would include checking to see if the drain valve on the water heater is indeed off. Did someone forget to reconnect some plumbing when winterizing the water system?

Check the line from the tank to the fresh water pump........close to the tank there may be a screen filter there and some fittings/valve, maybe they did no get tightened properly.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

It's interesting that you're seeing water in both the fore and aft bilges. I had the same boat but an earlier version... an '83. There were really three bilges, the fore, the engine room and the aft under the aft cabin. The engine room and aft bilges were connect via a limber hole in the bulkhead at the rear of the engine room, so any water collecting in one could end up in the other. The fore bilge was distinctly separate, so if water collected there it would not run back to the engine room, nor could water from the engine room get to the fore bilge.

Check all the hoses back by the water tanks and water heater (under aft berth) and at the potable pump (under port cabinet floor next to aft berth). Those would be the typical places for taking apart hoses for winterization.

If you've been using dockside water and not getting any water in the bilge until you filled the tank, then the leak lies in your tank or between your tank and the pump. Have you been using dockside water up until now?

Same issue here - water wouldn't stay in the system and ended up in the fwd bilge. Turned out the hot water tank drain plug was broken and open, but I had to pull the drain hose - which led into the bilge - to identify the problem.
