Installation of rear camera in 2006 41 CMY

Just acquired our 2006 Carver 41 CMY. Trying to solve the poor visibility to the stern from the wheel house. Thinking of installing a Raymarine CAM220IP above the rear sliding doors from the rear stateroom. The camera needs a flat surface, and I don't think I could get it to point down at the swim platform from the roof. So, I think I need to run wiring under the aft deck/above the rear stateroom, then up under the floor of the wheel house/above the salon ceiling to get to the console to hook into the Raymarine Axiom.

I'm not scared of taking panels off, just not sure where to begin. Couldn't find too many obvious screws in the ceiling of the rear stateroom or the salon. If anybody's done it, would appreciate any tips you can provide.

Welcome aboard and congrats on your new acquisition. Is there not enough room to mount the camera on the underside of the hard top at the very back between the edge and the canvas?

If you don't already have the camera and don't feel like paying HUNDREDS for it, then do some research on compatible units. There are a lot of boaters who've found that as long as you meet certain basic specs then most IP cameras will work with Raymarine units. Also, with a different mounting base it might open up more mounting location options.

There's maybe an inch between the back canvas and the edge of the hardtop, *this* camera definitely won't fit there. I could put it on the top, but I'm pretty sure it won't angle below the plane it's installed on.

I had been thinking that it would be better to keep it in the family, but I've since come across other posts that discuss a standard protocol for these types of devices. Thanks, I'll see what I can find.

What's nice if that if you can find those specs you can also consider adding cameras to your engine room or mast as well. I've seen some guys get cameras for ~$50-$60 and be happy with them for what they needed to do.

I saw some of the AR stuff Raymarine is doing, and it definitely looked appealing for the tech geek in me, but thought I'd start with a back-up camera, since backing into the dock with the horrendous visibility from the wheel house gives me all kinds of anxiety.

I had to get some for different reason then you have, as one of the boaters getting to and from their slip banged by starboard side number of times and denies of course. So after researching for options, and marine cameras way to expensive. And did not want to run lines everywhere, ended up getting Verizon hot spot maker. Also 2 blink mini cameras that are pointing out side from side window. and got one for outside but is under the aft ceiling, so not directly outside. And that's a different brand for outside use with solar panel. so now I see and get a message with video every time a dinghy or boat goes by. been using this setup for several months, so far so good. nice thing about blink is it records on a thumb drive (if you get the sync module). and also the ones inside the window, I turned off night light, so it records crystal clear at night from inside out. You may be able to do similar setup for your needs. just get one for the back (WI-FI) type outside camera with solar panel. setup with your phones hot spot. when you need to use, just use your phone to view wireless the rear camera setup. Yo do not need to have a separate WI-FI if you just need it for that purpose. But if you want to monitor while away, you can get a hot-spot from Verizon or whoever your carrier is, and can also use it as monitor away.
