So I replaced all my speakers outside of the cabin when I first got the boat. They were really blown. Now it’s time for the inside 4 speakers. Originally they are Clarion. But, they don’t make this model anymore. I am a fan of original look. I hunted for replacements and came up with Scorche speakers model HD 6504F. I really do not like the grills of these speakers. All I had to do to use the Clarion grills was to bend 4 tabs to allow the Clarions to fit, easy.

I didn't realize how bad my speakers were until I replaced them. Ones up on the bridge were starting to cackle, so I replaced those then got some matching ones for the aft cabin. The aft sounded SO MUCH BETTER than the old ones. The old ones were also originals and looked like a pretty cheap style. I wired the aft cabin ones into an amp and the TV so we could get "surround-sounding" audio (it was only stereo, but sure sounded good!).

Decades old speakers are easy to upgrade as they're all pretty much decomposed. But the good news is also that the sizes did not change that much over the years so it's worth keeping the old covers/grills!

The ones I replaced fell apart in my hands during removal. Replaced them with modern ones of the same size (depth didn't matter so that made the choice wide). For a real upgrade I would suggest to add an amplifier with a sub out and mount a sub somewhere out of sight. In a a car a simple amplifyer is almost always a cost effective upgrade and in a boat it will definitely improve. Just make sure you add a switch here or there to turn it off when you want to and not have it in standby during dock-sleeping times.
