Do you have carbs on these engines or throttle body injection ?.....in any case check, with the ENGINES OFF.....see that you are getting wide open throttle when the helm controls are pushed to the stops. The throttle plates should be full wide open vertical. Only check with engine off.... Never rev boat engines excessively at the dock.

And while you have the flame arresters off give them a good clean......

It's got carbs, so I'll check to make sure that the throttles actually are fully opening it up. I've been planning on lubricating the throttle cable anyway, so I'll add it to the list.

We do have trim tabs, and I can confirm that they work properly. It actually took me a while to recognize how the indicator display actually reports the position of the tabs. Turns out they're a lot slower to move than my prior boat.

Just an extra thought here. When was the last complete tune up? I had a boat a few years back when I bought her that would not get up on plane…about 3000 rpm was WOT. She would start easily and purred like a kitten at idle, just would not get up on plane. First thing I did was check the prop sizes, which was easy as she had outdrives. After learning she had the correct sized props. I did a complete tune up, new cap and rotor, new plugs and new wires. Problem solved. It was like she was a new boat. Went up to recommended WOT AT 4400 rpm and planed out like she was supposed to.

After re-reading the thread, I wanted to comment on this:

QR_BBPOST .... By coincidence, I took photos where you can see the props when it got hauled out last Summer, so I've been trying to compare them to props on other 325's. It kind of looks like they might be smaller than the other ones I've seen, but that might just be confirmation bias. Plus, it's not like I can tell the angles via photos from 15 feet away. ...

If your props look SMALLER than the other ones you've seen, then that's even MORE of an issue if you're not hitting spec RPMs. Smaller props (either pitch or diameter) would allow your engines to spin FASTER at any given hull speed.

I would also suggest this for others. during pre purchase survey during sea trial and run up to wot to verify boat will do it and then if not why and then you have a known mark for future reference.

I’m looking at doing a survey on Aug 8, 2022 on a ‘98 405 A/C. Are the props marked with pitch size? I’m sure my Surveyor will make note , but would like to know for my reference.
