Rudder R&R for transport

Hello everyone. I'm a new Carver owner. I just purchased a 2002 410 Sport Sedan. The transport to my location requires the rudders and props to be removed. I can't get back up to the start location to disassemble the rudders myself, so I'm having the yard do it for me. I will be reinstalling the rudders with the help of some others at the dock(also carver owners).

However, none of us have any experience with Tides bearings/seals for the rudders. Is there anything special about reinstalling the rudders with this setup? Any special tools?

Make sure you use the insert tool (Hat) to protect the seals when reinstalling the rudders or you might nick the seals resulting in a leak. Look in the area around the rudders to see if they hung one up somewhere, or get one from Tides, you'll have to check the size of the shaft. Here is an example....

If there remove any hardware and fasteners, ask them to label everything properly. Fasteners for each piece of hardware should be put in individual bags and labeled. If they throw all the fasteners into the same container, it'll be more difficult to figure out what goes where. If they take pride in what they do, they'll be meticulous about that so there is no guess work for the folks assembling at the other end.

On mine, the insert tool (i.e. red hat) had been turned upside-down on top of the rudder shaft to provide additional protection from debris getting to the top of the seals. I think that is the recommended way to use them after their primary use of protecting the seals from getting nicked during rudder shaft installation as Viper mentioned above. Make sure you ask them to save them and don't toss them out. Here's what is looks like on my boat (kinda dirty I know - it's on the list....)
