Did we do the right thing?

just to clarify, we offered to negotiate a price for the boat that took into account the work needed, we'd have happily gotten the work done ourselves, and paid a little less for the boat, but he was quite firm in his price, and appeared happy to remedy anything that came up in the survey. He seemed to feel that it was a solid boat and the survey and us agreed. I know the surveyor suggested it may be beneficial to get rid of the buildup of old anti-foul but im not sure that this was absolutely necessary. I did find out later that the cleaning of the hull was done at a much reduced price through the influence of the broker, who was keen to have the deal go through. It was the way the price changed right at the end that left a bad taste in our mouth. We did not insist on the work being done before the sale, that was his choice. Anyway, its done now, feeling ok with our decision ( it was a nice boat though)

Regarding the state of the market down under, prices seem to be coming down after the highs of the covid period. Interest rates are on the rise, inflation is going up, people can now travel overseas again for holidays. For whatever reason, many of the boats we looked at before this one are reducing their asking price.

Go thing you did not emotional about the vessel. Just was not ment to be. Next. There will be others. Things happen for a reason.

You absolutely did the right thing. Don't feel bad for the broker, sounds like he may have been part of the problem. Whatever the reason, you were being more than fair. The seller or broker got a little greedy when you added that cash to the deposit. Keep this in mind when they contact you for a follow up sale request. The test I always use is reasonable and honest communication. When people decide to change the course midstream, that does not pass the reasonable test. Another vessel will come along. I would stop using that broker also. er
