Source for rebuilt Velvet drives?

Post by waybomb »

Bringing the boat over to the marina for winter storage, blew the starboard Trans.
Is there a reliable rebuilder out there. As close to michigan as possible.
Thanks
Fred

Don't know where in MI you are Fred but if it's Trenton and you don't mind crossing the boarder, Anthony Keats Marine is in Wheatley Ontario and they rebuild those all the time. I've dealt with them for years. If you don't have any luck close to you in MI, contact Pete...

I think there's a place in (or near) Grand Rapids. I'll have to poke around and see if I can find where I got that from.

EDIT... It was Kalamazoo where I got that from. It was in this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6122&hilit=velvet

The place was called Kalamazoo Marine Transmission... here was his comment:
"You can UPS it to Kalamazoo Marine Transmission if you can't find someone local to do it
(Craig) the owner is a good guy with alot of experience"

Second vote for Anthony Keats. We dealt with them a few years back , had no issues with their service at all.

Fred.....The dollar exchange for you is real good right now, so Keats may be worth a look. .....but with all the boating in Michigan, I've got to believe there would someone right there.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

The exchange rate is in the US favor for sure but we charge way more for parts and services up here which will likely offset that anyway. Keats is about an hour away from the Detroit boarder Fred.

Are you saying a trans in Ontario would be more than 30% more than in the States, cause exchange is 1.37 ? Wow, I would not have guessed that.

Still worth a call though.

Do you have to pull the engine to remove the Velvet Drive?

Kalamazoo is 40 minutes away. I'll try there.

No longer in Trenton. Retired in August and now back at my place in Saint Joseph. Selling the place in Trenton with a 40 foot slip of anyone is interested.
Thanks
