Onan MCCK 6.5KW GenSet project on 1984 3697 Mariner

Post by rictamily »

Hello all,

Just wanted to show some before and after progress of the current generator rebuild. Got spare parts from a couple of places. One is from a guy in Florida who has thousands of Onan MCCK parts if anyone is interested in contacting him.

She looks great. What spec is she? Did you inspect the exhaust nipple between the manifold and the elbow before putting everything back together? Those were known to corrode from the inside out and were the cause CO poisoning that resulted in lawsuits. The replacement nipples were stainless steel.

Thank you. I definitely need to look into the exhaust nipple. Are you referring to number 12 on this screenshot from the manual?

The specs are the following.
model/ spec number is 6.5 mcck - 3cr/1h

Class= F
PF=10
PH=1
HZ=60
RPM=1800
KVA=6.5

Yes it's #12 in the parts breakdown but I would also check #11 and the elbow (10?). You may need to apply heat to remove the nipple if it's original. You want to be careful not to break the threads off in the manifold or the elbow.

The spec ID is usually a letter. Don't know if the "class" is the same as the spec ID. Your manual should mention something about the different spec IDs
