Have sailed for many years. Decided getting too old for all the line pulling. Had the carver for a year now. 2008 41 CPMY Long learning curve on the boat, especially engines and thrusters. I think almost all systems are working. Really enjoy the forum, lots to learn.

Question 4 U , lets say you have a 35 ft Mariner , Hull speed i think is 7 knots on the Carver , two big block engines moving that yacht verses 35 ft sail boat hull speed 7 knots , single engine sipping fuel

I am considering a Mariner35 - wife has medical issues requiring all comforts of home. I like layout , Engine room seems like you have room too work , Recently selling a 30 ft big block mile per gallon express cruiser , We want too do coastal cruising , I am 75 , she is 72 , I sailed before she terrified of listing . since I have options while shopping I dont want to end up being a dock queen cause I will cry at fuel dock .

ahl057 - Welcome to the neighborhood! I, too, made the transition from snail to power in '91. Did not take too long to figure things out, just set some time to practice, practice, practice. Manuvering becomes second nature pretty quick. Especially with thrusters, I did not have that luxury. The one thing I would suggest is get used to short bursts on transmissions and thrusters.

Al B - you will not cry at the gas dock. While sailboats are more functional in medium to bad weather, the condo feel of the salon and berths more than make up for it. You may not spend as many hours cruising, but the Mariner will offer you much more time at the marina. Compare comfort of condo living to submarine existance. Plus, that Mariner is going to offer 2 floors of living space. I am a fun guy to be around, but sometimes my wife gets frustrated with me. ( no idea why, but it is what it is ) When I can tell her "pity party attitude" is cranking up, I simply head to the bridge to "check the weather". Ahhh, the sweet distance of isolation, and the attitude savers in the bridge cooler. A couple that owned a 36 Hunter, cruised with me to a port 20 miles away. The guy half was sipping a c-tail, just settling in as we were approaching our destination. Was shocked that we were more than a few miles from our home port. His truly felt feelings were illustrated in his statement to his wife, "Honey, I think we bought the wrong kind of boat". er
