winch backing plate

is a backing plate needed when installing a new anchor winch on my 1989 3227 flybridge?

It is always good practice to try and spread the load as much as possible especially with older boat decks even if there was a windlass there before. I guess this is the simple answer, but that is what I would do and have done every time.....good luck with your project.

Thanks for the info.....I will check with Maxwell and see if the make a backing plate for the new winch.....
