Crusader engine wont start every time

Post by oriypom »

I have a 2005 33 SS with Crusader engines. My starboard engine is giving me fits. It will always crank but sometimes wont start. When it does start it runs perfect. The other day my wife was on the bridge and I was in the engine room and it wouldnt start. I noticed the breaker in the engine room (70amps) was tripped.....I reset it and it started right up. Now its back to its old tricks again but the breaker hasnt tripped. When you turn the ignition key you hear a faint beep beep and then the loud engine alarm as normal. The faint beep beep is a new noise. My boat is maintained meticulously and super clean in and out. I cleaned all the battery connections and took all the breakers apart and cleaned all those connections. Do you think it could be an ignition switch?.....it is fuel injected and electronic ignition.

I had a similar issue that only got worse. Turned out to be the starter solenoid. It was an easy and cheap fix. I would start there.

Yes, this is the slave solenoid. If you hear it click but nothing happens at the starter when someone turns the key, the slave solenoid is the likely culprit, proving all your connects are clean and tight.

Yup good place to start.....actually if you are careful they can be taken apart and cleaned, there is a disc in there that gets corrosion and makes poor contact.....but cheap enough to just replace.....they are a common source of failure...good luck ....keep some spares on board.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.
