Carver C37 Minimum Power

A friend of mine is considering a Carver C37. I believe it is a 2015. Boat is equipped with 5.7L 300hp Mercruisers. Is this enough for this boat? Just my opinion, but that seems kind of light on power for an 18,000 lb boat.

Would think it would matter what kind of boatting your doing.
Here's a link from boating mag. Shows mercuuiser gas 320hp 's and max speed at apx 39mph. I don't know how often anyone will be doing this but that's pretty good.

I have visited with several C37 owners in our area. They all loved the boat. No complaints with power being inadequate. Have not talked with anyone on big water. Good luck! er

That test was done with Bravo3 stern drives which are more efficient compared to shafts which the looked at boat has. I know a friend of mine had a 33 Chaparral express with 5.7 300hp engines and Bravo 3's. Was not a power house but what I would call adequate. That Carver is quite a bit bigger. Guess he would need to do a sea trial to see if it meets his expectations. Boat would be used for day cruising, trips to the Bahamas here and there and maybe the Keys from near a Ft Lauderdale port.

Those seem awfully light for that boat at least at only 300hp. I'd rather have 6.2L minimum. Only a sea trial will tell for sure but the boat needs to be loaded. Another member with the same model and engine package would be great to hear from for sure.

I agree it sure does seem like low HP for an 18000 + boat.

There are a couple things to consider though......I believe the newer hull design is one thing and it appears to have a very steep entry that possible increases the LWL. That would allow it to run with less power I believe,.... also there is no big windage items to deal with such as a bridge and canvas.......much more sleek design.

There are a few people here with these boats so it will be interesting to hear from them especially if they have the same engine package. Sea trial will show.

Met a couple at our marina with a C37. Like you, was surprised about the I/O configure on this vessel. The only thing that they bitched about was the quality of workmanship in the boat. Cabinets and such. He never talked about the power set-up.
