Thanks guys! This was only 7/16 the battle. Plenty more work to do but she's coming together really nicely.

The advantage of purchasing new motors is you know what you have from day 1. Hope all continues to go well and you will get to have a great season this year.

I don't even want to know what new engines cost. That said, this is probably the best way to go. Buying new you know exactly what you have from day 1 of usage. Good luck as your refitting process continues. Hope you have a great season.

Re: I've either made a horrible decision or a great investment
The motors weren't too bad price wise, their pricing sheet for 2016 lists them for $2,885. I called in and got them for a couple hundred dollars cheaper a piece since I was buying a pair. In the end, new motors was the best route. After dumbing around trying to get the best deal on rebuilding them, it made more sense to replace them since the prices were so close and my old motors needed the heads replaced.
Motor number two is well on its way to going back in. It's pretty much dressed minus mounts and some little things. It'll still be a while before I can fire them up as I need to source some new injectors and other little odds and ends. I swear if I didn't have a full time job, I would be in the water by now but me and Dad are making great progress as it is. Any day now.

Re: I've either made a horrible decision or a great investment
This is really good information, thank you for taking the time to post.
I've had my 98 Mariner 350 with 454's for 7 years.
I'm hands on doing about 80% maintenance, so following your journey is great learning experience.
I think the previous owner and the boat would be grateful to see the time, work and care you're putting forward.

Couldn't agree more with Rick regarding new motors. If my family did not grow out of my 42 Silverton Convertible, I would have replaced the 1000hr engines with 2 new fresh ones. Not that I needed to, as there is still a lot of hours left beyond 1k hours but if the boat is a keeper, might as well write the cheque!

Holy Hiatus Batman!!!Sorry for keeping you guys in the dark for a few months, this has been a crazy journey. The great news is the boat is getting a bottom job in preparation for going into the water the beginning of next week, Tuesday I start my journey up to Port Canaveral to her new home. I'll update you guys with some more pictures and details when I have the chance.
Cheers.
