Hi all, so I'm upgrading the windlass on our Carver 4207
I'm fairly confident that a vertical windlass is a better option as I support their design characteristics in that they do indeed get more gypsy-wrap, etc.
Questions though:
1) Is there indeed enough room in the underside 'locker' for the vertical windlass motor?
2) I'm thinking of going with Good Windlass, any other recommendations?
Thanks in advance!

Our 4207 had an Ideal windlass on it. Had a capstan on top. The thing was a beast and beautiful piece of machinery.
Alas, it seems Ideal is no more. Somebody bought them.

Can't help with the room part but Good is a very nice product, all US from NJ or they were when I bought.......nice people , family business. The package I got fit well, good electrics all worked as it should have, solid.
I don't think you will have any regrets there....."Good", luck with the instal....

I'm going with a Good Windlass and a 35lb Lewmar Delta stainless. I'll post when done, thanks for your help!

Re: -Anyone install a vertical windlass?
Recently installed a Lewmar V1 in our 370 Voyager. Very nice unit, 90deg motor orientation that can be rotated into any position for the least chain interference and most locker room. Easy installation with clamp type collar. If you go the Lewmar route, know that a solenoid controller and one up/down rocker switch comes with the unit.
