2005 Carver CMY 41 Cockpit hatch drain clogged

Hi everyone, I just purchased this vessel and the aft cockpit drain is clogged. Is there an easy access to clean the drain or should I just use a snake. Does a snake work? Thanks.

Try blasting it with a hose first with a high pressure nozzle and you might need to try it from both ends

I agree with b53. Gotta be careful with a snake, under the right conditions it could dislodge the hose from a fitting or puncture the hose, and if that is hidden or in a hard to access spot, you'll have a bigger problem on your hands.

Yes, a power snake can be destructive.

Best drain "clearer" I ever found is a length of stiff nylon tubing 1/4" OD. Just push it in and the debris is pushed out. No damage if reasonably gentle.

Hi, yes I tried all of the above before I posted. Problem is I'm not sure where the drain inlet is located. The water runs off the deck and along the walls of the transom. It appears I have to unscrew the decking to reach it. Any other ideas are welcome. Thanks, Newt

The cockpit floor is removable, PITA but can be done. Mine was removed after an encounter with some shallows in order to get to the rudders and other stuff. Cannot see how they can be worked on unless the floor is removed. If you open the centre hatch you should be able to see where those drain lines start. Not sure where they are but you may have access to remove the clamps and hose from the underside if you know a long and skinny guy that is.

The drain line is located right where the center hatch opens, a large seacock is there where it exits through the hull. Is that seacock open? If not, nothing is going to drain.
