My mechanic is replacing the starboard shaft seal but can't get the old one off the shaft. I need some recommendations ASAP

Can you explain exactly what you mean by "shaft seal." Are you talking about a seal from a dripless shaft log assembly? Confusing because if that's the case it shouldn't be a problem to remove the seal unless the assembly has melted. Can you post a picture of the part you're talking about?

My mechanic removed the shaft seal after much effort and finally applying heat. Thanks for the interest.

What did he apply heat to? Was it the seal that was stuck or the coupler? Heat to the coupler makes sense, but I can't figure out heating the seal.
Thanks!

So is it that he couldn't remove the seal or couldn't remove the coupler?

Gotcha - thanks for the follow-up! As a side question - do you know (or can you ask your mechanic) what size socket was needed to remove the nylock nut on the shaft that held the coupler on?
I've researched and can't get a definite answer. 1 1/2" thin-wall socket was recommended but for a different model boat (but still had a 2" shaft). I also have a 396 (2002 model year) so you would probably have the best info!
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am about to tackle this same project. Thanks again!!
