Fuel Level Sensors

I am wondering if anyone has upgraded to new fuel level sensors and what your experience has been with them. I have a 2000 396 with 454s and my Garmin screens are showing wild readings for the fuel level. For example: When the fuel tanks were completely full it showed 63%. Just prior to filling up the tanks the fuel level showed 95%. The more fuel I used the fuel level was increasing on the screens.

I am adding fox gateways to the engines to get readings directly from the source but I don't believe that will do anything for the fuel level.

Any help or advice in getting this figured out would be appreciated.

You won't get anything from the fox gateways on fuel tank levels.
You can go to their website and see what data is available.
Have you recently started having these problems? Is this a new install? Have they been calibrated? Did you just piggyback onto the existing fuel level sensors? What are the analog fuel guages that came on the boat doing are they reading properly? Probably need a bit more info to really help .

If you suspect the senders have gone or are going bad try replacing them with the reed style ones, (Link Below). I may be wrong but I don't think the Fox Marine Gateways share fuel tank level data as that is a separate circuit from the engine. These reed ones are better in my opinion as no internal parts touch fuel or are otherwise exposed to allow corrosion to occur. Just measure the depth of your tank and order the reed sender that is closest to leaving about 1 inch of space from the bottom of the tank. I used the Noland RS11 to take the readings from my analog gauges and translate the data for the MFD. Works well enough. Also heard good things about the Actisense EMU.

I have never trusted my fuel gauges on the boat. They are near correct but for a "real" reading I go old school.
I have a access plug in the top of each tank that I can insert a 1/4" wood dowel rod. This gives me real fuel level. Yes just make sure the plug goes back in snug.

On a 3607 you should be able to stick the tanks right from the fuel fill. The fill hose goes straight down into the tank.

We had a friend, an ex pilot.......he had a Voyager and never trusted the tank gauges.......he had a stick all marked in graduations, checked before and after a trip......we never had to fetch this guy.....

Of course this doesn't work for all boat designs.
