Cabin odor

I have read a fair amount about the line from the toilet to the black tank becoming permeated and causing an undesirable odor. I can see also that replacing that line is a solution for said odor. That however, appears to be easier said than done on my '86 Mariner 3297. Has anyone had success with other solutions?

If the odor is not overwhelming, I would just get a Kanberra deoderizer. Take the paper cover off, put it on counter near the head, and that will be that. They come in several sizes. Get the 4 oz. size and it should last a couple months at least. Good luck! er

Try pouring vinegar down the sink and shower drain. I use vinegar everywhere. It works every time!!

Welcome to the forum.... IMO ,unfortunately there is no fix short of replacing the lines with new......you can hide it but it will always return when boat is closed up in summer, just the way it is and is near impossible to get completely out without some serious attention to detail cleaning.....

One repair you might try though is to replace the pumpout hose from the bottom of the tank up about 3 or 4 feet.....that piece of hose is where the contents sit and stew, a common source of the odor....replace it with the hard white plastic pipe....you can get adaptor fittings to do this.......the pipe does not allow odor thru as the hose does.

I was told by someone (maybe on this site) that you can wrap hoses in Saran Wrap or something similar. We had a bad odor in our after cabin but it went away when we replaced the mattress.

I'd expect wrapping not to be easier than replacing the hose...

attach firmly (drill holes) a long line/wire/chain to the end and pull the old hose out at the other end (!) so that the wire/chain is in place of the old hose.

Attach said wire/chain to the new hose and manhandle it through.

A warm hose bends easier, also easier to attach to a barb.

Don't forget clamps before your final attachment to the tank/source of nose-evil.

Test run with water only lots of water, flush the whole system to infinity and beyond.

Just a thought but have you changed the filter ? Usually there is a breathable filter installed on vaccuflush systems. Especially if the tank has been over filled a bit prior to pump out.
It’s worth looking into it. Unless you’re sure it’s the mentioned hose for sure. You can test for it with a damp rag rubbing over the suspected hose and check for odor on the rag. It’s worked on friends boats. Let us know. Good luck.
