Re: 1989 3867 soft deck on fly bridge
We have an 89 3867, but don’t have any soft sifts on the fly bridge. Not aware of it being a common problem, but anything is possible. Where is th soft spot at on the fly bridge? I would check for signs of a water leak in that area. I believe, but I could also be wrong, that the core material there is balsa.

Soft spot is in front of console.
We are moving up (down) from a sailboat due to age related issues. Wondering about fuel range. The boat was repowered in '93 with Cat 3116 diesels. Last sailboat carried 210 gal of diesel so there was never any range worry.
Any input?
Thanks,
Bob

If the soft spot is in front of the seat in front of the console, that would put directly overhead in front of the pantry in the salon. Check the ceiling for water stains there. You said it has diesels. This would make it very rare, as diesels were not an option for power on the 89 3867 Santego. The only engine options were 454 mercrusiers or 454 Crusaders. Diesels were an option after 90. The 3867 (640 as it was rebadged in 91) and discontied after 92. After 92 the 380 became a the largest Santego which was based on the former 3467. You asked about fuel efficiency. The 3867 is equipped with a single 260 gallon fuel tank. Located under the follow in the middle of the salon. With my 454 crusaders I average rough 1 mile to the gallon at hull speed. Approximately 8 knots. On plane she’s thirsty and I will average about 0.5 miles to the gallon at 23 knots. Those diesels should be more fuel effcient than my gas burners. The only thing I would change on our Santego, if I could, would be to switch from from gassers to diesels. At 45 feet LOA, I’ve always thought that diesels would have been a better
Option for power. Beginning in 1990 on the 3867, Diesels were an option, but gassers were standard. Finding a 3867 Santego with diesels would still be a rare find as most didn’t want to pay the extra money for the engines. If you are looking to buy, find a good survey and complete a survey if seriously considering. It well worth the cost and could save you thousands in repairs.

Thank for the input. We are in Galveston Bay and looking to do trips up and down the ICW, hence the concern about fuel range.
