Hull serial number?

Post by LAZ »

Hull Serial number,
Hi guys and gals. It has been a while since I have enjoyed your company and help here on the forum. Unfortunately, I am now at a point where I am having to sell my old girl. It is a 1982 3007 aft-cabin. I need to provide a hull serial number in order to list it. I can't for the life of me find it anywhere. Can any of you tell me where on my ship it is located? Many thanks in advance for any HELP!

Always on the stern, right side, usually under the rubrail, but just look everywhere till you find it.

Thanks Buster. Have looked all over the transom, although I don't know what a rub rail is. Would it be a stencil on the hull itself, or on a metal plate, or...? And how big would it be? Thanks for your help.

3” x 1/2” maybe. I’ve seen them etched into a small metal strip and I’ve seen them etched into the hull itself. Google HIN or hull identification number and I’m sure multiple pictures will pop up to show you what they look like.

They are sometimes very hard to see. They are imbossed into the fiberglass, and into the hull so they are below the rubrail. Unless they get filled in with dirt, they are hard to see.

Here's what a typical one looks like:

WOW km1125, that is a thorough explanation, and a "picture paints a thousand" words", so it is now pretty much idiot proof ( I'm the head of that class!). Thanks a bunch. You rock!

And thanks Cooler!

If you don't see them anywhere mentioned above, check your inboard engine stringers. Your vintage should have it on the outside of the hull but stringers were a common spot on older vessels.
