1998 Mariner gas tank removal (video)

Post by Wkuhilltopperfan »

Hello guys/gals, due to a fuel leek I have been forced to remove the starboard gas tank. I have found that the best / fastest way to remove is through the cabin. I'll be uploading two or three videos, first will be the safe way to cut the cabin walls then the second video (few weeks) will show the repair process. I'm not the best video editor nor narrative person, but I hope my pain will benefit the next person in line. BTW. The couch seat will hide everything, I will also show the best way to reinstall the cutout on video 2 or 3

Thank you, I had not seen anything out there to help people like this. I was able to get some info from another user to get me started.

I'm sure it'll come in handy for somebody. The title will make it an easy search too. Do you know where she's leaking from? Is it a bad/cracked weld? Hard to believe it would be a corroded bottom already.

I'm hoping to have the tank removed today, but I've been told to look for a few small pin holes on the bottom. I'm the third or fourth case with this problem that I've seen go public with it, starting to wonder if there might be a flaw with the starboard tank since every case has been this tank.

For the benefit of those with the same model, are you able to post some pics of the bad areas on the tanks so they're aware of potential issues they may face in the future. Also curious, what does the tank normally sit on, just a platform? If so, I'd consider something that would allow the bottom to breath/dry out.
