Need Crusader 30233 choke spring (454 350hp)

Post by waybomb »

Looking for a Crusader part number 30233. It's the choke spring for a 1987 454 350hp model.
Everywhere I've looked finds none.
Anybody?
Thanks

They holleys or rochester ? An auto one will work, just a spring after all.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

All I have found is kits to convert to electric choke. Last thing I want is an electric choke in the engine room.
Thanks

Check out Sierra part # 18-7667 and see if it's a fit.

Thanks. Just ordered it. Even if it's slow to unwind or fast to unwind, at least it unwinds.
Thanks

If the new one doesn't fit or doesn't work, then take a close look at the old one. Sometimes the pivot in the middle of the coil "spring" gets loose. Heat the spring and see if it indeed operates like it should (getting longer). If it does then you can re-stake that pivot in the middle and the choke will work fine again.

Went to install the choke spring today. The new one is backwards. The rod mount is on the back instead of the front.
I'm thinking I can drive the mounting pin out, turn the spring around, and drive the pin back in, noting the orientation of the notch on the one side.
Thoughts?

Well, the pin does not drive out. The thing is set in place, then the ears of the bracket are crimped together to hold the spring pin in place. I spread them out, but one ear broke off.
Being the backyard jerk I can be, I set the pin in place, crimped down what I could, and then jb welded the pin in place on both sides.
We'll see if this works. Have to wait for jb to cure.
Thanks

If you're talking about the "pin" in the center, then the answer I think is NO. If you look at the center of the "spring", the "pin at that point has a larger diameter then the ends, so it would not slide through.

When the unit is built, the parts are assembled then inserted into a machine to pinch the tabs down on the "pin" to prevent it from rotating. After many heat/cool cycles, this may become loose and cause the choke "spring" to rotate, making it ineffectual on the choke butterfly. You can re-stamp (or re-stake) these tabs to stop the "pin" from rotating.
