I have a 3207 with two 5.7L inboards, using fresh water (closed circuit) cooling. Do I need engine
water pumps from Crusader or will automotive application suffice?
Thanks

Re: 5.7 water pump
Automotive water pumps will not work. You do not necessarily need to use Crusader brand, there are other brands that will cross over, but you need a marine engine application. Are you really talking about a water pump, or the impeller for the water pump?

Re: 5.7 water pump
If it's closed cooling and you're talking about the circulation pump not the sea water pump, an automotive pump will be fine as it's just moving coolant in your case, so the metal composition of the impeller doesn't matter like it would in a raw water application. The difference is the metal the impeller is made of. As long as the ports are the same, it'll be fine.

Re: 5.7 water pump
If you are using an automotive pump for closed cooling, be sure to get the one that fits right. I believe the distance from the block surface to the pulley mounting point changed over the years......marine uses the older shorter one If I remember. Just be aware to check fit first as there are some differences to be aware of.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

Just to add to the above, if it's not leaking antifreeze out of the weep hole, the pump is most likely fine. So, if it's an overheat problem, you may need to dig deeper before replacing parts.
