Spring buffing/polishing

This is going to sound tacky, but I am getting older. I had my Mariner compounded last spring with Turbo Cut compound. Looks great! I applied Mequiars Premium wax. Here is where I'm going with this. Sitting in the warm storage bay, the hull still looks like a mirror. The guy that did the compounding mentioned he thought this was the first time it was ever compounded. Made a heck of a mess with grit all over the floor. I normally regard polishing as an annual requirement, but not sure I am going to get any value out of 10 hours of polishing. Does anyone else go multiple seasons after a compound/wax process? We did have a sunny, dry season last year. Thoughts? er

I wax every year. I use a Makita.. I only used compound a long time ago to bring the shine back, and protect every year with wax.

I would wax only unless your gelcoat really suffers from the effects of severe conditions every season. A good wash and wax is probably all you need.

What a topic. Every year the same dilemma ... You, in this case, wax only if it looks good like Viper said. I have a friend who stopped compounding, prior to wax, and is using CLR on a rag prior to his wax. He says this eliminated doing compound all together to remove the chalky haze....

Thanks all! Viper - will follow your advice. Another point I did not mention earlier was our marina is located in a geographical are where we had filtered sunlight for almost the whole season. Canadian fires reduced sunlight, and I assume UV impact. Surface of hull looks untouched. er
