New Carver owner from Canada

Post by Gemini K »

Hello
I just wanted to introduce myself to the community. I have bought a 2004 Carver 360 Mariner. Currently under shrink-wrap on the St Lawrence seaway and hoping to sail it to its home on the Georgian bay in a few weeks. May ask for tips etc. Thanks Gemini K

THANK YOU ALL!
Great to be on a forum with fellow Carver Boaters!

I will be launching from the Creg's Quay Marina in Bainsville (Ontario-border with Quebec), then down the St Lawrence to Trenton and up the Trent Severn.
I bought this boat end of Sept last year and havent driven it yet.
My last boat was a Sundancer 280 which had twin I?O.
So its the first time for me driving a twin Inboard and a fly bridge.
Not sure whether I should rent a Captain for the seaway portion or just take it on and learn as I go.

Greg Quay, was there for 8 years. The Seaway is rather simple to navigate, no need for a captain. You will go through both Snell and Eisenhower locks and finally the Iroquois lock then it's free cruising until you hit the Trent. 2 first locks may take a couple of hours or half a day, all depends on commercial traffic who have right of way. Iroquois lock is basically a drive through, not even sure why they have doors there except to catch you so you can pay your dues, usually rather quick to go through.

A good first day stop over would be our Marina which is Prescott or the official name nobody uses, Sandra S Lawn Harbour. From there another good days ride until you hit the Trent but if you are not in a hurry, do take some time to see the Thousand Islands which you will be passing through from Prescott until you reach Lake Ontario.
Cheers, Hans

Thank you Midnightsun
I will definitely post pictures once I figure how to upload here.
My only concern was with my previous boat, I had a fish finder so that helped me with navigating in new areas, as I could see the bottom in 3D.
I have a Raymarine chart plotter, printed charts, INvaX, and a depth gauge but no profile (just the depth in feet)- I guess its just a matter of getting comfortable.
