I'm not much help with the bow/stern thruster questions, but I definitely feel your pain. Our slip requires a 90 degree turn like backing into a garage and my dock neighbors on either side overhang the pilings I could use as a pivot point. If there is much wind it is very sporty, and my bow thruster motor was removed.

Definitely interested in whatever you come up with for a solution.

There is so much out there. I do not want to buy it twice. I have to pivot 90* also to back u into my spot. I’m very proud of my driving, it’s just to remove the pucker factor…

There was talk about the seals on the side shift needing replacement after about 2 years. I went to the to the Side shift office where they make them in Carleton Place, and had a chat with Rob Griffin (CEO),right next to our home. Nice set up and very clean work-site. I mentioned this to him and was very aware of it. He says this was all taken care of over 10 years ago.

Sorry that I'm late to the discussion. When we bought our 445 coming from a 36 Mariner I was not confident in my docking. With a 15' beam and an 18' slip I didn't have much room for error. After doing some measuring I figured out that if I came side to the slip (port side) at about 1 mph and laid the port side up against the end of the finger pier and started to pivot (stb engine in reverse - using the port engine to make any adjustments) into the slip with about 6' of the stern covering the slip that I'm coming into - I can rotate right into the slip. I do have my co captain on the aft deck letting me know if I need to make any adjustments. It works real well. Hope this helps.
