Coolant leak after sea trial
Well it keeps getting better.
After spending a couple months ironing out small issues after taking ownership of my 1999 445 I had it out for a full throttle run and extended motor today. When I got back in the slip and I had a "large" coolant leak. Didn't have time for true detective work. Anyone have to deal with something similar? I would like to narrow it down before starting the trouble shooting,
Thanks

Re: Coolant leak after sea trial
I think this is way to vague to have much of a answer. No info on where, on top of engine? Under engine ?Front ?back ? Hose clamp loose? Suppose close cooling , heat exchanger cap?.leaking water pump?

Re: Coolant leak after sea trial
Question....did the engine overheat/get real hot while on the run?
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

The engine did not overheat. It was running just above 180' the entire cruise, right around two hours. Thanks for the input. I'm heading back to the boat today for a closer look. I'm new to the boating world and diesels, but have some engine work experience. Will try and add more info when I have it. Thanks for the input.

Thats good news, Chances are then the cooling system pressure was holding , ya need the pressure to help control the temp....check all the fittings etc though like has been said.Alastair MacGregor wrote:QR_BBPOST The engine did not overheat. Could be a number of sources; hoses, fittings, gaskets, cap, etc. Look for bleed screws and ensure they're all tight as well. Check the connection and hose to the overflow bottle if applicable. What is the level in the overflow bottle and how does that compare to the level before the trip? Was the bottle above the full mark before you started out?

Follow up:
So not coolant: So much water was being jetted around the engine compartment, cannot call it an engine room on a 445, from the leaking bellows that some of the oxidized bronze (blue/green) had dissolved into the water and accumulated into the bilge. PSS bellows are shot and being replaced as soon as I can get the boat into the yard. Boat life is so much fun! Thanks for all the input
