Obtaining a Builders Certificate

I have a 1984 Carver Convertible that didn't come with a original builders certificate. Any ideas on how to obtain one? I'm really struggling on how to. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Not sure which document you are looking for. If you are referencing the Original Manufacturers' Certificate, you will not be able to get one. That document is turned over to the state in which the vessel is intially titled. If you are talking about the information that was included to the original owner disclosing the OEM & parts list for your vessel, that may have been included in the packet that contained your owner's manuals, but probably did not survive the multiple transfers of ownership along the vessels ownership group. If you can find another owner that has one, it would be close to what you have, but not specific to your vessel. There are a number of those models in your area, so you could check different marinas to find an '84 and subsequent year models. Carver generally used the same molds for years with just cosmetic changes. I think I saw one at Quarterdeck Marina a couple years ago, on the west end of the marina, A or B dock. Good luck. er

If you are looking for a title, or some type of certificate of ownership, you need to contact the state agency that handles boats. For some states it's very simple. For others, it is a long drawn-out process to get a new title if the line of ownership was lost.
If you bought a boat without title, do not put any money into it until you can get clear title!!!

When I applied to the USCG to document my '77 Santa Cruz, they required a "Builder's certificate" which confirmed the dimensions and the calculated "Net Tons" (actually volume). This would only be furnished on demand and is strictly for the documentation process.

I received one from Carver. I do not believe that that certificate would be available from the factory any more, since they closed in 2021. USCG documentation is replaced by a motor vehicle titling system.

Any old Carver factory workers here that can attest to have worked on the manufacturing floor at Carver Boats? if so you would be extremely helpful with USCG form CG-1261 OR Fact of Build Letter -

I was able to obtain a Builder's Certificate from the National Vessel Documentation Center, USGA by getting a request form from the site below.

I don't know if you can directly request it from the National Vessel Documentation site, but below is what I did.

I filled in my info, vessel official number, hull number, (I put unknown for commercial vessel), left vessel name blank.........and clicked on Builder's Certificate. It was a $4 credit card fee. I filled in the form, printed it, scanned it, and attached the pdf to an email to nvdc.pdf.filing@uscg.mil

They sent a confirmation email that day and I received an email from USCG with the document attached the next day. It is signed by a Marquis Yachts employee (our's is built in 2016). It's a CG-1261 Builder's Certification and First Transfer of Title.
