all around white nav light

Post by Renegade15 »

I am missing my all around white nav light that plugs into the socket on the windshield of my '86 Mariner 32. Does anyone have a good pic they could send or better yet a make/model of the factory light? I would like to use the factory light style if possible as the plug/wires/switch is in perfect working order...surprising for a 30 year old saltwater boat! Anyhow, thanks in advance for any tips on sourcing a light.

If it's the one with the "socket" on the center of the windshield, it is a Perko branded light. However, Carver usually spec'd lights with specific heights and bends for the Canvas they offered on their boats. My suggestion would be to get in touch with Carver to see if they still have the information on what you may need. In light of them not having it, the socket is standard to Perko, you will just need to know if it is 2 prong or 3, and make sure whatever pole you get, that it is above the canvas on the boat

+1
Too often you see boats with a short forward light as originally equipped from factory with no canvas option. The owner then decides to add canvas later but neglects to change the pole so that the light is above the tallest structure. While a shorty may be okay when underway if you have it in combination with a stern light, it defeats the purpose of the all-around function when at anchor with the canvas up.

Yeah, it's a 3 prong and I know it will need to be the highest point. We do have a full canvas enclosure, but will make sure it clears it. I might just buy a tall light and use a conduit bender, seems like it should work ok?

The bender should work fine as long as it's a decent quality stainless pole.

A perko or lund after market possibly, and then put the bend in it. The other problem is that the original had a shield under the light to keep the light from shining back at you on the bridge.

I think I found a Perko that will work, and luckily since it has to be above the bimini top I am not too worried about the glare...I can always just keep my shades on! 8-)

Great, however if you put the bend in it, it will shine down on the windshield and reflect at you. You may be able to find a clamp on shield of some sort. May be if you do not out the bend in it, it will be far enough over the canvas and not bother you. Good luck, if I come across an original I'll let you know.

Just on the perko site and they make the glare shield too, it's under the accessory section. And it looks like they have the mast light with the bend all ready in it and its shown with the windshield base mount too. Mike
