Removing saloon door

Hello,

I have a 2000 Carver 396 aft cabin, that has sliding saloon door and separate sliding screen. The track and wheels on the screen have become so fouled it does not easily open or close. So I need to remove the door and then screen to clean the track and probably replace the slide wheels. The question is how to best remove the sliding door. Referring to the attached pictures (

), I think the following will allow me to remove the door, but I'm not sure:

(1) remove the two sets of two screws from the top of the door to release from the top track wheels.

(2) remove a set of screws (looks like 3 or 4) along the bottom of the door to release from the bottom track wheels.

(3) the door does not look like it would have room to lift out unless the trim piece at the lower left of the foot well is removed; it appears to be removable with a single screw (and cutting the caulk).

The above is hoping that the seat above the door, the cabinet to the left of the door, or the stainless rail to the right of the door do not need to be removed in order to remove the door.

Any experience, ideas and tips appreciated.

Have you tried silicone aerosol lubricant's? It worked for me on our sliding door and screen.

Clean what you can see and lube all you can, I wouldn't try removing that door unless I absolutely had to.

The lower rollers on or helm to salon door had collected numerous deposits. After scraping these off (one roller at a time 360 degrees, very tedious) and applying some silicon spay lube to the side rub rails, ours now glides back and forth.

Cleaning the rollers is much like cleaning the old roller ball mouse, scraping off all the accumulated residue.

I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering if the original poster, or anyone else, has actually removed this particular door that is found on the 396/404/444/etc models? Was the proposed method correct or is there anything else I should be aware of before attempting this?

I ran across some info a while back about someone removing this door and replacing the "plastic" slides with actual rollers. I haven't been able to find that thread yet, but I'll keep looking.

Hopefully there is an answer as to as to how to make this door easier to slide. On my 2001 396 the door very stiff to slide. As far as I can see everything is clean, there are no grinding noises and I sprayed it with silicon.
This subject is dear to me as I slightly tore a tendon in my should last August which at some point may require surgery from operating this door. I will do anything to fix this. Please keep us informed.

On my ‘04 366, that door is easy to open from the outside but a pain to open from the inside. Mine seems much simpler to remove and clean the track but I’m not sure if that’s really necessary. Does it just need some grease or new rollers…Waiting for someone with experience in this to weigh in.
