Wrapping parts of my 3297

Post by lz33w7 »

Hello friends,

I am super new here. I’m in the process of bringing my 1987 3207 back to life. I’m installing granite counter tops and marble flooring within the month.

Ok, so I’ve started wrapping parts of the boat in black.

I wanted to get your opinion on wraps…I figured if I enjoy my balt enough, when the time comes I’ll paint it black in the areas I have black…what’s everyone’s thoughts on that?

I’ve done the back, and because my swim deck was destroyed it’s being rebuilt, it will be black also.

I have a thick skin and can take the criticisms…thoughts on the wrap???

Kindly,
v/r,
Stephen

First of, it's not a 3207. It's a 3297.

I did granite tops in my 3697.

I would not use anything slippery for flooring in a boat. It's gonna hurt if you smack your head on granite from a slip.

I do not like the black you are doing. It's a personal choice; my choice doesn't count. Do what you like.

But you will put the boat for sale at some point. I think you are narrowing down the field of buyers by doing so.

And welcome aboard!
Thanks
Fred

Thank you, yes, typo, I’ve corrected….

Black is my favorite color so I’m keeping it.

I know you’re right about the flooring - I’m on the fence about it.

Appreciate your candor.

Stephen

2 things…marble floor, bad idea all around. I have some boating friends who put bamboo flooring in their boats and it rally looks nice, durable, lasts a long time.
While a black, shiny hull is sharp looking, you are pretty far south and that black hull is going to soak up the heat of the sun, big time. It will be late at night before you can begin to cool it down, ESPECIALLY if you have been running your engines and heating up your engine room which also takes forever to cool down.

Can't imagine doing black on the swim deck. Isn't that going to be REALLY hot stepping on it when it's been in the sun for more than 3.2 seconds?

How you are getting the swimdeck black , paint or wrap ? My 2 cents follows.

There are a few places on a boat that need to be severely non skid, especially when wet.....the place you board , jump on or jump off from in a hurry when wet or in an emergency, docking etc. The big one of those is of course the swim step especially with a transom gate or door, others are any steps aboard and flooring around them.....good luck with your project.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

I missed the part about the swim deck being black…that is a HUGE BAD IDEA. On a hot sunny day, you could fry eggs on that deck.

Hey guys,

Thank you for everyone’s input. Yes, black will be hot, I know…but 9/10 times it will just be me on my boat….the swim deck will be painted and they are using a rough material that will provide traction so not too worried about it.

I’m making my vessel how I would like it, especially since I will live on it for a few months. Being normal is boring to me but I also understand functionality as well as what makes me happy. I’m willing to sacrifice.

I invited your constructive criticisms and I really appreciate it…thank you friends…but, I won’t be happy with my boat until it’s done the way I want it done….if I sell it and take a loss, oh well….

Thank you guys, hoping I can still post progress here and pictures. I also drive old British and Italian cars…..those make me happy to.

Kindly,
v/r,
Stephen

Not trying to be a smart ass, but why did you even bother to come here and ask opinions when your mind was already made up to do it the way you wanted all along?

I don’t think you’re being a smartass and I didn’t take it that way.

Why did I post if I knew what I was going to do what I wanted all along, simple, I wanted expert opinions of far more experienced boaters like you and others.

If it’s ok, I will continue to post my progress. Other members pointed out that black will get hot, absolutely it will.

I want feedback - good or bad.

Kindly,
v/r,
Stephen
