Carver 390 Steering

Have a 1994 Carver 390 with a leak somewhere in the steering. Anyone have any experience fixing one of these? thanx, dc

Sorry to hear that.....first step will be finding where the leak actually is, Inspect the system one end to the other to look for signs of hydraulic fluid leakage. Check under the helm/wheel and at the steering ram first and anywhere there may have been some recent work done.

Do you have 2 helm stations ?

If it is still original, it is a Hynautic system. They are notorius for leaks starting at the steering arm, and then draining a reservoir down to the level where the helm pump will blow the seals. Then, you will need to get the helm pump rebuilt, ( they are obsolete ), and replace or rebuild the steering arm. How did you become aware of the leak? Are you seeing any fluid at the helm pump? Hopefully, you noticed the leak when checking the reservoir, and can keep the system filled. 8-) er
