Ceiling Vents in the Salon of my 346 aft cabin

Post by Malone1956 »

We just took possession of our 2002 Carver 346 Aft-Cabin. We're just getting familiar with things and I noticed a pair of ceiling vents mid way of the main salon. Can someone tell me what they're for or how they operate? We are loving life tonight on our first night.

If they are like the ones on the ceiling of the 396 they are connected to under the brow of the bridge. While underway they provide spray protected positive air flow/pressure in the salon and help keep out any engine room gasses and station wagon effect that might leak past the closed salon door. I keep mine closed when stationary which keeps the AC in and the spiders out. It's a thoughtful addition I have not seen on other boats

Does anyone know the PN for these ceiling vents? Mine are yellowed from UV and seems like an easy replacement to freshen up the salon. I was also wondering where these connected, have not seen any spiders coming down them but spiders do love boats!

If you can't find them, then you might research "retrobright". It's a process to restore yellowed plastics. I've done it on a few things and it's worked great. Doesn't last forever, but can be redone years later if the yellowing comes back. There are some commercial products but also a lot of DIY mixes that work just as well.

You could just take them down and paint em. Then you get any color you want.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.
