Accerelation issues
New member an I have a 2001 410 sportsman, which is the same hull as a 2004 420 mariner with volvo TAMD 63 diesiels. The boat bogs down when you try to get on plane. My 2004 had vents to break the vacuum of the rear platform. my 2001 does not and the boat suffers and bogs down when accelerating. Is there a fix for this or a kit?

Re: Accerelation issues
Are you full down on the tabs when you start? That can help lift the stern and get the platform out of the water sooner. What RPMs are you running at WOT? She may be propped for slower running versus running on a plane...

I think the boat is stuck in "limp home" mode if it is truly bogging down as you say. If so, you are going to need a Volvo tech to read the codes. What RPM's are you getting up to when you say it "bogs down"? Does the TAMD63s have the diagnostic display at the helm? If it does and you hold down the "diagnostic" button it should give you a number of flashes that will tell you what the code is.

Re: Accerelation issues
Certainly check the above. I'd ensure you don't have a runability issue first before modifying the platform. When was the last time maintenance was done such as air filters, fuel system service, etc.? Any other symptoms; smoke?

Re: Accerelation issues
The vents on my 2004 were about 2" in diameter and were "taped" up against the transom and were fitted vertically in the bottom of the platform. I was told this was to break the vacuum. My 'new" 2001 doesn't have these. Same engines , same props , no vents. I am using full down tabs and the engines are all working great. I was just wondering if I could modify my boat to have these next time she is out of the water. I have emailed carver , but no response. The boat will plane . it just has to have full down planes.
