US Water 200 GPD Watermaker - Techie advice/analysis

We're shopping for our first boat and leaning toward a Mariner 36. On our list of "nice to have" features is a reverse osmosis watermaker so we don't have to worry about the 70 gallon limit on the tank. We found prices ranging from $4400 to well over $6000. Then I accidentally stumbled across this unit from US Water : https://www.uswatersystems.com/us-water-200-gpd-floor-mount-light-commercial-line-pressure-ro-system-with-20-pre-filters.html?gclid=CPXA9fWUjs0CFZQbgQodnn0D6Q. It says it's RO, has three stages of filtering, and produces 200 gallons per day... for only $395??? Seems like I'm missing something here. We would appreciate it if someone who is more knowledgeable about these systems could take a look and shed some light.

I will take a flyer here and say that the 395 one is the type you have at home under the sink for drinking water from city water, not the desalinization system you probably want for turning salt water into drinking water where you are...

Thanks, bud37. You're probably right. Desalinization takes high pressure. Like, 800 psi high pressure. This system lacks the high pressure pump to handle that. Thanks for pointing it out.

Welcome to the forum John. Happy hunting. This is a great resource for you as go through this process. We are in our 3rd season with our 2001 350 Mariner and are very pleased with the vessel.

I am sure you have be already been harped on about it...... but just incase..... on word before you buy "SURVEY'!!!!

I had a 500gpd RO watermaker from ProWatermaker out of Portland OR. The cost on that was $3300 at that time (2005?). Simple operation, no electronics, only manual operation. Good customer service, FWIW. Good luck on your search.
