Mystery

Post by feeez »

When we arrived at our boat this week my shore power 1 breaker was off. No damage done. I checked my energy monitor and there had been very little usage so it had just happened. We left the boat for several hours today and when we return the breaker had tripped again. When I when to reset it the reverse polarity light blinked and the breaker again tripped. I checked all of the shore power cords and they all seemed secure but I unplugged and plugged them all in again and the breaker reset no problem.

Any tips or trouble shooting would be appreciated.

Thanks

Can you switch to another power pedestal Fraser? Maybe its not your boat but the supply...

I agree with Lyndon. Try that, it's the easiest check. Other possibilities are your inlet, your cord, your breaker, or wiring. The chances of both cords doing the same thing at the same time are small so try switching the two cords to see if the fault fallows #1 cord. When this happens, are there any symptoms on line 2?

Agree with Lyndon. Another boater is drawing too much and tripping your shared circuit. Happened to me.

I had a very similar problem a few years back, misc trips and occasional reverse polarity light. After checking everything including the connections at the breakers on the boat I pulled the shore power inlet connectors out and the neutral wire on the connector that connects to the main breaker was a bit toasty and loose. Cut, strip, new crimp all was well.

Sure sounds like a bad neutral to me! Mike
