Still awaiting for the new engine to be replaced in our 1994 Carver 390 CMY, so we got the old lettering off of the transom and placed the new on. Boat yard says they can start the engine transplant on Monday June 20th with a new Michigan Motorz long block. Hoping still to have her for the 4th of July weekend!

Thanks Rick! It is like a tease. We have been able to run her up and down the Piscataqua river but not out to the ocean yet. Even with a bad wrist pin, I had her up on plain at 3000 rpm. I can's say enough how smooth a ride she was. Hopefully in a few weeks it will be down the river, out to the Atlantic to the Isle of Shoals, and then the 8 hour run down to the Cape Cod Canal and then home. 22 years ago, home for her was in Bridgeport, CT. Then she went to Main, now back towards her original home. I am now wondering about how hard it will be to add a house bank of a couple of GC batteries rather than the single 12V battery she has for a house bank. I will keep you all updated.

I can't imagine just having a single 12 volt battery for a house bank unless its a 4D or 8D. Having said that, it really boils down to your boating habits. I spend a long time on the hook so even a single 31 group would be inadequate for my needs. Unless you go with a premium brand like Surrette ($$$), GC batteries are the best bang for the footprint and buck in a flooded battery.

Hope they get that motor in quick so you can start your season. Keep us posted.

My last boat had a set of 6V GC batteries and all I really wanted was the fridge to operate. Once I get her home I can check space available and perhaps take out one of the single 12V batteries and create another House bank. Even though I have a generator, I don't want to have to start if many times a day.

Another option as opposed to larger battery banks

I am most likely installing a 300w solar panel system on board. (2x 150w panels on the hard top) With the proper controller and good panels it can supply 10-12 amps @ 12v quite easily.

The controller is very important if you actually want good output even in poor conditions. There are tons of them out there but all the cheaper ones are falsely labeled garbage or hit and miss.
