This weekend the pressure arm broke on my Maxwell windlass, has anybody had to replace the pressure arm before and if so how difficult was it?

Re: Windlass pressure arm replacement?
It's either the 500 or 800. I got off the water at midnight last night and was spent since I had to pack and drive a hour home......basically I was to tired to look

Go to this link and click on the "Power and Sail" then "Obsolete Models" then "Freedom" Load the PDF file and go to page 30. It shows you exactly what to do.

Re: Windlass pressure arm replacement?
Pretty straight forward, Did a Maxell 500 just this winter. I strongly suggest you unbolt the unit and service it completely in your garage. The oil seals will probably be shot and you will be lucky if there is still oil in it. Oil seals are easily replaced by the way. Good opportunity for a good lube job also.

These units aren't made anymore so when you buy the pressure arm, you may want to consider buying two as I suspect they will eventually be harder to get and more expensive. They are a normal wear item so if you're keeping the boat for a while, you may eventually need to replace it again. While you're in there for the pressure arm, check the condition of the stripper.
