HOLODECK is HOME!

Post by tonyiiiafl »

Last week, we made the final trip up to Maine and brought HOLODECK, our 1994 390 CPMY home. We bought her in December 2015, and went through a myriad of disappointments, right on down to a sea trial with a motor that was knocking after the broker said it was 100% ( I HATE brokers, those lying SOB's!) Anyway, we got a starboard engine replaced and after escrow, it cost me $5,100.00 out of pocket. We gassed up and headed for Cape Cod. Once we hit Gloucester, MA the new engine quit. After quick triage, it was determined there was a failed fuel pump. We limped home on the original port engine at 2800 rpm's for the remanding 96 miles at 7 kts. yes, I would never buy a trawler. After getting her back in her slip, I found a bad fuel pump and a broken eccentric collar, and the sea water galley of the pump filled with gas. So the bearings were wiped out. I then decided to check the port engine, and yep, some gas in that pump and the bearings getting noisy. So two new sea water pumps have been ordered along with new fuel pumps. We have her all cleaned and spiffy and in process of installing Quantum radar along with new RayMarine e127 and e 97 and Standard Horizon AIS radio. Hopefully, next weekend will wrap up the work and we can enjoy this fine lady of the seas!!

Happy to see you finally have her home. Hoping that you will soon have all the bugs worked out. Buying a used boat is definitely a different experience from buying new. Of the 10 boats I have owned 6 were new and 4 used.

Good luck and I hope the rest of your season goes well. It has been great following your saga.

When I bought my Carver last year I had a much different experience with the broker I was working with. He actually steered me away from a couple of boats his brokerage had listed. It probably goes back to our first conversation when I told him what I was looking for and my expectations. Some brokers are OK in my mind. Emphasis on some.
