1998 350 Mariner plotter change

Post by Wkuhilltopperfan »

My Apelco 530 display is toast and I'm having trouble locating a replacement display which is forcing me to change out my depth gauge/ plotter system I only use the depth finder feature and really don't have a need for the plotter, but my problem is finding a system that either uses the same mounting scenario for the transducer (which is a bottom hull mount) or where things can be easily modified. I will be able to have the boat pulled from the water and I will have around a 4 hour window to have any below the waterline work finished before the boat will get re splashed. If anybody has already had to swap systems and are happy, I would love some help.

Thank you

Unless you are looking for CHIRP, side scan etc, you can most likely get a raymarine depth finder / plotter that can use the existing transducer, may need an adapter cable.
Also, a word of caution, if you replace the transducer you need at least 18hrs (I believe) if you use 4200 sealant, longer for 5200 before you can splash again.

I thought the tech department at raymarine had told me that the transducer was not compatible with any of the current products......I could be wrong , I would hope that I could other than the price that comes along with they're products

Airmar makes most if not all the transducers. If you can find your transducer on their site, you can also find the wiring diagram allowing you to cut and splice to your new unit. a 120 kHz transducer is the same today as yesterday. I believe the newer units are 1000 watts but will adapt to the older 600 watt transducers. I cut an old Lowrance transducer cable and connected to my new Raymarine A97. It seems to work fine.
If you buy an expensive unit you may not want to risk warranty issues.
