Post by Washopay »

On a 10 hour trip over the weekend my Stbd engine logged 110 hour. Clickclickclickclickclickclick!

Any ideas what's up?

Hour meter runs when the key is on,wether or not engine is running. Did you maybe leave the key on?
If not was your cruise near Bermuda?

And how many gallons per hour did you burn? Go ahead, make us jealous.

I honestly believe that the hour meters used in boats have to be the factory rejects. Every boat I have owned, the hour meters are never close. I even alternate which engine I start first and turn the one off which I started on first.

Used to drive me up a wall. I gave up.
Thanks

Fred's comment X 10. Mine are different by about 30 hours side to side. Up in our neck of the woods that could be almost a season of boating..... :banghead:

Mine are 90 hours apart for some reason. Boat is an 81 so that translates to about 2.5 hours per season.

Must be related to the thread about running on one engine :-D

There's no voltage regulation in their design so differences in voltage will also make one run slower than the other, and it's not the best time piece.....no jewels!! (for you old school guys 8-) )

Viper, you may be onto something with the running on one engine. With the other prop running backwards wouldn't that make the hour meter for that motor run backwards, creating a greater disparity between the hour meters?

Hour meter has no connection to the prop.

What bugs me is all of my meters have been Hobbs.this is supposed to be good stuff.

Aircraft maintenance is based on airframe and on power plant hours, as indicated on a "Hobbs" meter; the brand is the industry standard. It could get very costly if the hour meter is off
Thanks

I certainly thought so. But you never know since we really don't know each other. I wanted to not offend!
