2000 carver 350 mariner

We recently checked out one of these and have a couple questions.

The large hatch cover in the galley floor right by the wall to the head....this one had a plywood piece under the hatch cover, What is that for, is that in all ??

The air conditioning had only one controller that I could find, I am assuming from this that it is only one heat/air unit...yes??

Any comments on the 6.2 MPI Mag engines and how is to work in the engine compartment ?...Thanks

That is their to give some support to the hatch cover above.

Our 2001 only had one air conditioning control.

Ours has the 350 MAG MPI and working around down there is pretty good. The batteries are between the engines and get in the way sometimes but generally it is a pretty good space for regular checks etc.

Thanks Feeez...how are the 350's so far....the one we looked at had the 6.2 mpi, not to sure about those engines, but maybe someone has some experience.

We have had no issues with the performance from our engines. When we bought the boat the draw was accommodations not speed so much. We use it a lot like a trawler putzing along at 2000 RPM enjoying the water. She will plane nicely at 3000 if we need to cover some distance more quickly (14 to 15 knots).

There are some other members here that have the 6.2's so I am sure that you will get some responses on that power package also.

Well I may have to reintroduce myself as a Carver (again) owner soon, did the survey and sea trial today on a 2001 350, all went real well ( could it be any hotter??), we just have a couple very small things for the owner to deal with then he gets the cheque.Feeez, if you are reading this ,I would love to see your battery setup as this has the factory original and needs some more.

That would be great, as I am not much for 12v planning.....yes it has the gen ...two starts and one for the gen...and the charles 50 amp charger...probably what you started with...

My Charles charger was not working properly so I replaced it this season with a Promariner 1250. For Batteries I moved the genny starting battery over behind the port engine. I just had to get a longer positive cable made up. Then I moved what is Battery 1 to where the genny battery was and this made room for 4 Trojan T105 6v batteries that are connected in a series/ parallel array. This is Battery 2. This setup has worked great for us as we anchor out quite a lot. Anyway, back at the boat on Monday.... pics to follow.
