Best place to buy a new AC unit
I have to change a 16000 BTU unit on our 2006 Carver 46 MY
It's easy to get to so I will save $2500.00 and do it myself
Where is the best place to buy a new unit in the GTA?, best place means best price

Dave,
Bob at Northland in Keswick. My front AC compressor just went and I'm pulling it after haul out.

You might want to take a look at this company in Florida (link below). I was considering putting AC in my last boat but bought the Carver They were very competitive even in US dollars. There should be no duty as they are manufactured in the US.

Northland is okay and will sell direct to you but you may get a better deal from a retailer or marina that can order from one of the other distributors like LNS or Paynes.
Have you asked your marina to have the unit checked yet? Chances are they'd call Northland to assess/repair.

EBAY has Webasto marine units, 16000 btu 120v $1500 and free shipping from florida. May be worth a bit of research?

Re: Best place to buy a new AC unit
Going with another supplier will not make it a "plug and play" system unless they offer retro fits....with the Marine Air system its only 3 wires and the duct work to come off.

Re: Best place to buy a new AC unit
I have had great luck with this brand. Love the SS drip pan, sound shield, remote control and gauges installed. simple swap out for my Marine Air unit.

Re: Best place to buy a new AC unit
I had the unit checked and recharged, didn't last, I think I will stay with Marine Air for a simple swap out. I will contact the people in Keswick I have heard of them before
thanks for all the great input

If you had it recharged and it worked for awhile, try to find someone to find and repair the refridgerant leak. you may get by with a couple hundred dollar repair and have several more years of a/c from the unit.

Re: Best place to buy a new AC unit
Tom makes a good point, and I went that way with our Ice maker only to end up replacing it in the end, do to an unrepairable leak. So I spent $500.00 for the repairs and ended up replacing the Icerette with an Edgestar for $300.00. The alterations to install were minimal, had to open up the cabinet area 1/4" on each side and of course re-plumbed all the water supply. With an AC unit I would go with a plug and play unit if I could, because most generally they are located in such an area access is a pain and I like the idea of the new unit having a Stainless Steel drip pan. Good luck with your choice and hope all works out. Mike
