Californian 45 packing size

Post by Hotei »

I have a 1990 Californian with 2" prop shafts. The packing nuts have bottomed out and I need to add some more packing. It's not a problem to add the packing in the water, IF I have the correct packing to add.
Can anyone tell me what size packing is used?

There are different makers of the packing glands and they use different size packing with the same size shaft......so you may have to measure the ID of the nut and 1/2 the difference between that and the shaft size would be the size you are looking for.....2'' shaft and nut ID of lets say 2 1/2"-----diff 1/2" divide by 2, would be around 1/4" packing..just an example for you.....good luck.....you probably already know this but....... :beergood:
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

You could try calling Carver and give them your hull number if you don't get a definitive answer here.

Where is she berthed? Don't recall ever being in one up here.
