Re: Shore water
You have a bad check valve at the shore water connection
You might take it apart and get lucky there's something keeping the unit from sealing or you will need to replace it.

Re: Shore water
Our 1986 Mariner didn't have check valve built into the inlet for shore water. You had to cap it when you ran the onboard pump. I ended up buying a shark bite check valve and put it in the line after the inlet fitting, thus no more need to cap it. Also, you can purchase a pressure valve at any Walmart in the camper section if you shore water pressure is to much for your existing plumbing. The newer inlets being sold today I do believe have the pressure regulator and check valve built into them. Mike Lot's of options!

Re: Shore water
You're right Mike, most of the older units did not have check valves in them so could indeed be just that it needs a cap or seal depending on the current type. Some older apps such as mine have a remote check valve/regulator. You wouldn't know it's there by simply removing the inlet fitting as the regulator is hidden behind the starboard wall panel behind the couch.
If you have one of these:
http://www.defender.com/product3.jsp?pa ... id=2410648 there is a regulator/check valve built in and if leaking, it needs to be replaced.
If you have one of these:

there may or may not be a check valve behind it.

Re: Shore water
Viper, that style from defender go bad? The one like that on our '98-355AC/MY seems to be holding back too much pressure and sometimes after re-hooking it up after a cruise it squeals and make noises and the pressure at the facets is low. Mike

Re: Shore water
Ya they go bad. If you can 't get the same amount of pressure or more than your on-board pump, then it's likely time to replace the fixture. Most common cause of failure is improper winterizing but like anything else, they'll fail just because it's time.
