Buzzing coming from panel

Post by Carcare »

Hi all, is it normal to hear a buzzing noise coming from electrical panel when hooked to shore power ? It's not loud just noticeable.

Could just be your battery charger, can you find it and shut off then listen....thats all I can think of ..... :beergood:
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

The charger is deffinitely a possibility as sound has a funny way of traveling through a boat. Some accessories are also typically mounted behind the panel such as gavanic isolators, TV antenna controllers, circuit solenoids, etc. Depending on the type of breakers you have, they can hum also. If there are no accessories behind the panel, and you have eliminated the charger as a possibility, try turning off one breaker at a time and see if the buzzing goes away. If it does when you turn one off, that will be the breaker you need to replace.

May I suggest unhooking all shore power and even shutting off the DC power and opening your panel and check for any lose or corroded connections to any breakers, relays etc. first. Also if you have volt and/or amp meters on your panels are you getting good reading. I saw a lose neutral at the boat end of the shore power plug melt on a brand new boat last year. Bad neutrals and grounds can be an issue also. Mike

I second that thought. Someone else down the road may have the same problem and we can all learn from your experience here.
