Head Vent Filters
Any of you with a 355 AC or 356 AC know where exactly the charcoal filters on the waste tank vents are. I haven't come across them and the book recommends changing them seasonally. Mike

Re: Head Vent Filters
my 97 405 did not come with any filters for my vents on my waste tanks. i bet yours didnt either. i did make some using pvc and activated charcoal the premade are too expensive for what they are. i can open mine and replace the charcoal when needed, i also started using noflex digester and i have noticed a big difference in the contents of the waste tank. you can google it and read about it.

Re: Head Vent Filters
I may make them too, just wanted to know where they were if they existed. Haven't had an outside vent issue yet, but then again don't want one either. Mike

Re: Head Vent Filters
I have a 1994 390 which is basically a 355 with a cockpit. On my boat the holding tank vent filter for the forward holding tank is located under the back dinette seat. For the aft holding tank the vent filter is located along the port side back corner of the salon inside the wall. There is a hatch opening which allows access to and through hulls.

Re: Head Vent Filters
Same here, my 2007 41CMY came with one for each head. On a rather important note, the key to keeping the smell down is through good venting. That being said, all boats I have previously owned have the common 5/8" vent hose and were all problematic at some point due to limited venting through a 5/8 hose. My Carver has 1 1/2" vent lines
never had an issue yet and to top it off those vent filters are the originals from 10 years ago so they are definitely not helping in any way or form. As for replacements, I did see there are a few aftermarket direct replacement units at 1/2 the price although still spendy compared to a refillable DIY unit.

Re: Head Vent Filters
Thanks all. I'll go investigating and thanks for the all the input. I think our occasional odor is coming from the aft shower sump but wanted to check and see if the holding tanks did in fact have filters too. Mike

Re: Head Vent Filters
These vent filers contain some carbon to help neutralize the vent odors. On my last couple boats, rather than pay 60 bucks for a filter that last one year at best, I installed a whole house type water filter housing with a media container. I installed it "inverted" so any condensation would drain back to the tank. Every spring, pull out the media, replace with some fine aquarium carbon and you have probably ten times the surface area of the throw away filters for about $5 a year.
I haven't had an issue on our 355 yet, so I don't even know if it has filters ( I didn't see them yet) But this is the path I will take when required.
