Boat automation
Has anyone put in some boat automation on their boat? I was looking at boat command (https://boatcommand.com/), but it's got a monthly fee and they don't incorporate cameras. There are some other company's that do a similar things also but not all encompassing. My marina has wifi, so I was thinking about adding a standard home automation system like vera (http://getvera.com/) or Apple's home kit (http://www.apple.com/ios/home/). It would be nice to keep tabs on it while I'm not there. Thoughts?

Re: Boat automation
Many ways to skin a cat. You can use the systems you mentioned or set up a NMEA 2000 backbone that with the right peripherals and controllers will allow you to do everything from monitor systems to turning on your air conditioning from your cell phone on the way to your boat. New navigation electronics are NMEA 2000 compliant and can be tied into the network as well.

I have 2 amcrest ip2m 1080p ip cameras i can check inside and outside of my boat and see thermometers i have in the bilge to know my bilge heaters are working and the thermometers i have in my fridge and freezers to know they ok. and a couple tplink smart ac plugs for lights or cabin heaters that I can control all with my phone no monthly charge. I have this same stuff and more at my house too. It's really nice being able to pull this stuff up

Re: Boat automation
I have the boat command, love the system. Monthly charge is about $7 a month. The unit works off cell signal, no need for wifi. It monitors my bilges, high water alarm, shore power, motion detection, cabin temperature, geo fence and tracks my trips. I get alerts via text if something is triggered. This year I was waiting to hear from the marina that my boat was pulled for storage. One morning my motion detector sent text, then shore power disconnect, then get fence alarm. I tracked them across the bay to the storage area. Great system, little cost.

Re: Boat automation
im not byron but i see no way of connecting any video to this unit it only reports from the sensors
https://boatcommand.com/how/
however if you have some money to spend this says it will show video plus extras. yikes!
EyeOnBoard – Suited for mid-sized vessels, EyeOnBoard uses wireless technology to simplify installation, which avoids tearing into boat compartments. The WiFi communication option also allows owners to tie into their marina’s WiFi for monitoring, and the base station PC can also be used for regular internet access. They don’t have a mobile app, but a companion website can be used to remotely control onboard equipment. A starter package with an outdoor camera and one year monitoring service costs $2,219.84. EyeOnBoard.

Re: Boat automation
Does the monthly fee cover the cell connection or do you have to have a carrier supported plan/number for the base unit?
Thanks in advance.
