Engine Stalls - No error codes QSM11 530 2005
This problem has me and the mechanics stumped, I even had the Cummins guys look at it.
The STBD engines stalls out usually once per run, most of the time when I turn it on to warm up it will stall out.
Here are the symptom's and what has been done.
The STBD engine stalls out usually when warming up. No error codes show up, I had Cummins replace the engine management unit just in case. Problem was not solved.
When stalling out when I turn the ignition on and off the "Engine Status Display" does not light up. Then engine turns over however it does not start. I have to turn off the Port engine also, then it seems to reset and the engine will start.
So basically unless I turn both off it will not re-start.
When the stall happens the RPM display start showing bad numbers, it bounces around from 0 to 200. Kind of goes nuts.
Symptom #2 - The 10amp fuse that powers the engine management unit has blown a couple of times now. Usually only under high load.
Symptom #3 - The RPM display on the fly bridge does not display the correct RPM sometimes, while the pilothouse still shows the correct data.
I have spend quite a bit of time checking wiring, nothing found so far. I have been told it might be a grounding issue or possibly the Sync circuit is no good.
Does anyone have an idea to point me in the right direction for trouble shooting.

Can they electrically isolate the two engines easily? Can they by-pass the sync system to eliminate it as the culprit? Also consider asking what type of safety system related faults would shut them down. I'm thinking a critical system like the electronic controls. For the type you have, will a shifting fault for example shut down the engines for safety reasons or would they simply keep running but default to neutral? I can't remember, would have to refer to literature.
