2003, 360 Sport Sedan

Post by tjh408 »

We are new to the forum, and are in the process or purchasing a 2003, 360 Sport Sedan with 8.1 Volvo's. The initial inspection and survey went very well. Everything dry, tight, solid and in tact. When we started the motors for the sea trial, the starboard motor stalled, restarted however shows low voltage? The owner said he has replaced the battery already and needs to fix the low idle?forum

At this point we were out of time and will come back for the sea trial and short haul Wed.

Any thoughts on the low voltage and idle for a computer controlled motor would be appreciated. Also thoughts and comments on this model would be very much appreciated.

Great forum

Welcome to the forum and maybe Carver........once either engine is running there should be 14+ volts....could be lots of reasons at this point for low,.... his guy should be able to deal with that, I would hope.....there is no adjusting idle on an engine with an Ecu...the later ones you have there have a floating idle....Good luck with it....

Oh, the add....if one engine was running and then stalled as a result of the second starting, that could be a result of low voltage for various reasons.....lets see how it goes on your trial.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm hopeful they will solve the low voltage issue. My suspicion is that is causing the issue with that engine. I know my 2017 Evinrude etec it won't even start with a low voltage condition.

Welcome aboard. Ya can be several things, anywhere from poor connection, not charging, needing a tune-up, etc.

If you post engine serial numbers, I can check to see if there are any active campaigns on those. Other than that, they're typically good engines. I suspect this is a salt water application? If so, try to find out how old the exhaust elbows are, and the manifolds if they are raw water cooled. Any hardware with salt water running through it; heat exchanger, oil coolers, etc. are worth digging deeper as they only last so many years in that environment. If they've never been replaced, consider that in your budget for the future.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the input, we are making progress. The low voltage seems to have been solved. The motors run smooth from idle to 4,100 25.7 knots with 6 people aboard. We do experience a bit of a shudder about 1,100 - 1,200 RPM shafts, props, cutlass bearings seem good. No vibration in the motors or trans?

Thoughts?

Any thoughts on the shudder at 1,100-1,300 RPM?
